More Modeling

This week's update is more modeling. First the wings... the style is like in the concept art (from the U6Project pages).  Wings 'fold' by turning and bending down. The wing shape will probably have to change to what animation requires.

After the wings I thought I was ready for some animation-setup, animation tests and export to DS-tests, but no. I had trouble exporting meshes from Lightwave to GMax - the polycount changed greatly for the worse in the process. I tried many different ways but then I realised it was just that Lightwave counted all polys, be they 3 or 4-sided, as the same. So in effect I had a lot more more triangle-polys then planned.

The real polycount is (after some optimizing for the smaller gargoyle):

  • wingless smaller: 1382 triangles
  • winged big mofo: 2030 triangles
  • In comparison young Half-Tiger from Elemental has 1520 and adult version has 1512.

So yeah, too much. After more optimizing smaller should came down to say 1200 and bigger to 1600-1700, I hope.

Todays screen captures are from GMax(SiegeMax). There's smoothed versions too for 'in game preview', sort-of. No textures yet though.
