NPC Patch for M6

It’s been brought to our attention that there is a bug present in the M6 Milestone that makes the game unplayable at a certain point in the plot. We have posted a patch for this here:

http://www.u6project.com/download/m6patch/u6p_npc.dsres

Just copy this file into your Resources folder of the U6 installation. You will not have to restart your game.

If you have not encountered this problem, then you don’t need the patch. I can’t tell you what the problem IS because that would be a spoiler. 🙂 Sorry!

U6 Project M6 Released!

It is with much pleasure that we announce the release of Team Archon’s next milestone of the Ultima 6 Project, Milestone 6 (M6) for Dungeon Siege 1 (PC and Mac). Some things to look forward to in this release:

  • Nearly the entire world is now available for players to explore:
    • Brand new dungeons have been added and existing dungeons have been expanded or improved. This includes Pirate Cave, Covetous/Wrong, Shame, Crypts, Cyclops Cave, Destard, Heroes’ Hole, Ant Mound, Hythloth, and Stonegate.
    • The Gargoyle lands are in place, including the Gargoyle Shrines and Tomb of Kings.
  • Many new NPCs have been added, including all the Gargoyle NPCs, a favorite talking horse and an exiled Gargoyle.
  • Additional enhancements have been made to existing areas.
  • More quests have been implemented, and one quest which players were unable to finish in the original game can now be completed. Many more quest related items are now available to the player.
  • Numerous enhancements to the core game play have been made, including improved animations and textures for the Gargoyles, and many small tweaks and improvements

This is not a final release of these sections of the game, but we feel that they are reasonably polished enough for public consumption (read: scrutiny). If you find problems with the release, want to exchange play hints with other players, want to give us kudos, or (heaven forbid) want to tell us what you really think, join us at our forums. We have set up a special forum for the Milestone 6 release on the Project Britannia forums (http://www.projectbritannia.com/index.php).

To download the M6 release, go to the Ultima 6 Project web site at: http://www.u6project.com/ where you can also check out profiles of the Project team members.

If you like what you see, and would like to contribute to this great game (and help us get it out faster), the team is looking for a dungeon-builder and a 3D modeler. We are also looking for writers, 2D artists (portraits/textures, etc.) and music creators. And, of course, we’re always looking for play-testers. Contact any of the team members on the forums if you’d like to join the team.

Installation

If you already have M1, M2, M3, M4 or M5 installed, you will probably want to uninstall them before you install M6. They may not play nice together.

To install, download the .zip file, and extract it into a temporary folder. Then, run the setup.exe program. It will set up all your shortcuts for you. Please leave feedback in the forums.

A few notes: If you have trouble getting it running, check the following:

1. Remove all files from your My Documents\Dungeon Siege\Bits folder.

2. Check to make sure there aren’t any stray .dsres or .dsmod files in:

Program Files\Microsoft Games\Dungeon Siege\Resources or

Program Files\Microsoft Games\Dungeon Siege\mods.

To uninstall, use Windows Add/Remove Programs or the uninstall shortcut in the Start Menu.

About The U6 Project

The Ultima 6 Project was formed in 2001 by Sliding Dragon to develop a remake of Origin’s Ultima VI: The False Prophet with newer graphics and a more immersive engine. Soon assembled under the banner Archon, the team members, who hail from all over the globe, have set about recreating the world of Britannia, adding an enhanced storyline to bolster intraseries continuity and building on the Ultima legacy in a way that will please fans new and old.

Ultima 6 Project Update – Need Playtesters to Help with Upcoming M6 Release

The Ultima 6 Project is looking for play testers to help us find bugs so we can get rid of them prior to the M6 release, which is scheduled for April 30th. There is a huge world with lots of dungeons to explore and monsters to stomp. There is a Gargoyle world as well, which no one outside the team has seen before. The first picture below is in the Gargoyle lands, and it certainly looks as if our Avatar is very lost.

This next picture is in one of the dungeons … those guys look like they’re out for blood!

If you are interested, and would like to get a head start on playing the game, contact the team at the forums on the Project Britannia website (http://www.projectbritannia.com/).

Development Journal: April 10, 2009

Hello, been a while again.

I’ve spent lots of time creating other creatures, animations, custom farmboy-models, dead & sleeper bodies, numerous items big and small, and have just been the general 3D go-to-guy for our team.  I’m not forgetting gargoyles, though.  They’ve been tweaked futher.  You can see many of these thing in my coming(soon) demoreel, maybe something you haven’t found in the game yet?  How about Giant Ants?

We had trouble with the gargoyles on the Siege Editor-side, textures loading reversed and more, but our coding wizards have stambed the bugs.  They’ve also managed to bring in more of the animations I made earlier.  Say, before you saw wingless gargoyle attacking or fidgeting in only one way, now they should use 3-8 animations more for each action.

EDIT(May 2009): Many of these problems are still present and anims not in use, scheduled for a fix in M7.

As a teaser here’s a short clip of Silver Serpent, reduced to a gif-anim.  See them ‘for real’ in game.  They’re huge 🙂

Any 3D-wizards, or hobbyists, out there interested in growing their resume with low-poly game-models and animations?  Please take a look at our job openings.  We’d love the help.

February 2009 Update – Press Release

The U6 Project has been hard at work creating M6, which includes a massive amount of new content. How much new content? Nearly the entire underground is explorable, and even the gargoyle lands will be available.

While there is still no official release date, the press release by Content Coordinator Aletys states that M6 is “nearing completion” so that should be good news for Ultima fans. Read the full article here:

We’ve also updated our roster with a number of changes. Welcome to our new portrait artists Devon, Ogg, and Grimwerk! We hope to be posting some of their work in the coming weeks for your enjoyment. Meantime, hang on – we’re working on it, and hopefully we’ll have M6 ready for you soon.

Development Journal: October 7, 2008

Regardless of my lack of reporting, the work on the gargoyles progresses.  We had plenty of trouble with the winged, again.  The beautiful rig I made for animating it did the job fine until we came to the point of changing heads for unique characters (and in the future other parts for armor).  Winged pretty much exploded.  So I had to scrap my rig, make a new one and redo all winged animations.

Recently, in order to get wingless gargoyle wear armor (not done yet), I’ve redone the UV’s, texturing and rigging for the wingless.  See picture here for the difference.  This texture, while not great, is less embarassing for me to show.

Other than gargoyles I’ve built some special non-character 3D for the game, made the journal graphics and so on.  Work goes on, M6 approaches, but we could use some help too.  See team-section, thank you.

U6 Project M5 Released!

It is with much pleasure that we announce the release of Team Archon’s next milestone of the Ultima 6 Project, Milestone 5 for Dungeon Siege 1 (PC and Mac). Some things to look forward to in this release:

  • New areas to explore (Trinsic, Jhelom, Moonglow, New Magincia, Serpent’s Hold, Skara Brae, Sutek’s Castle, Trinsic)
  • Enhancements to existing areas
  • New plot details and quests and other subtle refinements
  • Numerous enhancements to the core gameplay such as:
    • The Journal system now records many quest details automatically, but still allows the player to make their own notes
    • A new “Event Console”, which can be toggled on and off, and which will help you keep track of what’s happening during play
    • Many more tunings and tweaks to the core Project Britannia systems ( for the nitty gritty details, check the change log )

This is not a final release of these sections of the game, but we feel that they are reasonably polished enough for public consumption (read: scrutiny). Modding for Charity

As many of you know, the U6 Project has been going strong for several years now, and it’s cost us a fair amount of cash to keep it going. Every once in a while we’ll get someone asking us if they can donate some money to the project. Well, since it’s an all-volunteer project and not a commercial venture, we can’t accept money. However – we’ve recently realized that there’s no reason in the world we can’t suggest a charity to which you could donate instead. While gaming is certainly a worthy cause, we think that it would be even better to give the gift of life and donate to the Susan G Komen foundation for breast cancer research.

Please note: The U6 Project is not affiliated with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization in any way, shape or form. We’d just like to recommend that you give your money to them instead of offering it to us. Thank you.

Interview with RPGWatch

From RPGWatch.com:

Recently, I had the opportunity to ask the co-lead producer of the U6 Project Jesse ‘Zephyr’ Strachman a series of questions as they’re working hard towards the release of their next milestone. After the tremendous success a couple of years ago of U5-Lazarus, there has been growing interest in this second remake using the Dungeon Siege engine.
