Good news!

I think I just found out why animation setup doesn’t work in DS-preview!

I have kept away from this as I hate techical issues, but then just his evening I had a revelation: There were hidden polys somewhere inside the mesh.

See I transferred my mesh from Lightwave in OBJ-format. As after that my animation setup and animation worked fine in GMax, I figured it was okay. But just now I noticed the polycount(triangles) of the same model in LW and GMax(imported) didn’t match. As LW doesn’t count in triangles only, the problem wasn’t obvious at all. But now I did the transfer in DXF-format and polycount stays the same. I’m quite positive this was the reason: 50 hidden unconnetted polygons flying all over the place.

Anyway now I believe I can get it to work. If so, I’ll add a pic of posed Gargoyle here later(!). Only issue with DXF-format transfer, besides that it turns all polys into triangles, is that DXF doesn’t transfer mapping, so I will have to map and texture these beasts in GMax.

I have tweaked polycount more and it has gone down..

Winged: 1558 triangles
Wingless: 1204 triangles

This could be as low as the polycount goes as next I’d have to remove major muscles definiton or such. Anyways I’m rather happy with the meshes in general.

Yay! My guesses about the origin of exporting problems were correct. So now it works and I can move on to mapping/texturing. Included image shows gargoyle exported and working in DS-preview.
